Energy security and access

Around one billion people in the world lack access to electricity. Energy demand is expected to increase by 25% by 2040, the majority coming from emerging economies dependent on fossil fuels. Geopolitical shifts that regularly throw countries into energy price volatility and challenges in the market. Blackouts from tropical storms and other natural disasters coupled with the threats of cyber terrorism against our energy ecosystems also remind us of the vulnerability of centralized power systems.

The challenge is building an energy architecture with great performance and accessibility that simultaneously considers economic development, minimizes the effects on the environment and climate and contributes to national security.

Distributing the power

The only way out of this challenge is a transition from fossil based, centralized power to a decentralized or distributed set of renewable energy solutions. Power is generated closer to the source, the vulnerability decreases and the transition from fossil fuels is accelerated.

Commercial and residential buildings are responsible for around 30% of the all global GhG emissions. New technologies such as solar panels, geothermal heat pumps, smart grids and energy storage open up opportunities for property owners to produce their own renewable energy. Instead of being passive receivers, they create their own energy systems that produce, store and optimize energy over time. Buildings can become heroes, being climate passive or even net energy positive. These integrated solutions are a segment that is growing by up to 60% per year, just in Sweden.
